Flights to Siem Reap

Renowned for its proximity to fascinating ancient ruins and temples, Siem Reap’s thriving markets and vibrant nightlife make it an enchanting destination in its own right.

Angkor Wat, an extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the city’s crowning jewel. Venture through emerald-green tropical forests to discover the world’s largest religious building made iconic by its elegant spires and vast footprint. The temple is one of hundreds evidencing the architectural genius of the Khmer Empire. Tour the Angkor Archaeological Park, an area of more than 240 square miles, to find more incredible structures dating back as early as the ninth century.

Head to Bayon Temple, another breathtakingly expansive site, for a surreal experience. Here you’ll see over 200 smiling faces intricately carved into the stone of its many towers. Ta Prohm Temple, meanwhile, differs from the park’s other sites as it’s been partially reclaimed by the jungle. Explore its towers and corridors that are intertwined with gnarly roots and towering trees.

There are a multitude of museums in Siem Reap that offer further insights into the city’s storied past. While the Angkor National Museum houses astounding Angkorian artifacts, the Vimean Sokha Museum provides an enthralling journey through Cambodia’s entire history. Stroll through an eclectic mix of displays, from ancient Khmer stone relics to collections of rare bicycles and motorcycles.

Northeast of Siem Reap, the Phnom Kulen National Park makes for an unforgettable day trip. In the heart of thick jungle, you’ll find the sacred mountain of Phnom Kulen, a riverbed carved with thousands of religious symbols (lingas) and a giant reclining Buddha. There are also several picturesque waterfalls where you can bathe in serene natural pools as water cascades down rocky cliff faces.

South of Siem Reap is Tonle Sap, a giant freshwater lake famed for its biodiversity. Embark on a boat trip across water teeming with fish to see the charming floating villages that are nestled among its mangroves.

Classic Cambodian dishes are available at every turn in Siem Reap, with none more iconic than samlor korkor. Often compared to ratatouille, this hearty soup is packed with vegetables and meat. Amok trei is popular too, a fish curry steamed in a banana leaf and infused with coconut, lemongrass and other spices for a rich flavour. Trying Cambodian coffee is also a must, especially if you prefer a strong, dark brew.
