Housed in Adelaide’s heritage-listed former Colonial Mutual Life Building, Mayfair has shaken up the city’s lacklustre luxe hotel scene within just one year of opening. Blending contemporary flair with retro charm, its 170 light and airy rooms are spread over 11 floors, and boast custom-made beds, cut-crystal lamps, and locally crafted marble-topped bedside tables – all bathed in a sophisticated palette of ‘Mayfair’ blue, taupe and grey.
Head up to the hotel’s 13th floor Hennessy Lounge and sip on their signature honey-trap cocktails from the comfort of an atelier Versace chair, or drink alfresco on the rooftop champagne terrace, set amongst the gargoyles and soaking up panoramic views of the city. Back on street level, the original art deco ribbon staircase descends to the Mayflower restaurant, helmed by Bethany Finn, which is worth a visit for the vintage dessert trolley alone. Stepping out for dinner is also an option – nearby Peel and Leigh Streets are brimming with speakeasy-style pop-up bars and trendy eateries.
