Emirates Seat Selection

Terms and Conditions

For seats purchased on or after July 29, 2022
  1. Emirates offers the following seat types in Economy Class:
    1. Regular seat—a regular seat by a window, in the middle or on the aisle;
    2. Preferred seat—a seat located towards the front of the Economy Class cabin on the upper deck of some of the A380 flights offering the possibility to be one of the first passengers to disembark (window, aisle or middle);
    3. Twin seat—a seat located in a row of two with just a window and an aisle seat. These are at the back of Emirates’ Boeing 777 flights and on the upper deck of some A380 aircraft; and
    4. Extra Legroom seat—a seat offering extra legroom by the exit row.
  2. Seat selection:
    1. is subject to availability at the time of request;
    2. may be restricted due to operational and safety reasons;
    3. is non-endorsable and non-transferable between passengers; and
    4. is subject to Emirates General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.
  3. Emirates reserves the right to amend, limit or revoke this offer at any time prior to purchase and accepts no responsibility for any technical issues resulting in the failure to pay.
  4. Seat selection charges:
    1. are only valid for this transaction and subject to changes;
    2. may vary across sales channels;
    3. are, unless otherwise stated, per passenger and per segment;
    4. include any applicable tax; and
    5. are non-refundable except as described in Section 6 (‘Refunds’).
  5. Conditions:
    1. Subject to these Terms & Conditions, your purchase allows you to choose the following seat types: Regular, Preferred, Twin or Extra Legroom.
    2. We will do our best to provide the seat(s) you reserve. However, we may have to move you to a different seat due to disruption, aircraft change or for operational, safety or security reasons. In case of involuntary seat changes, you may be eligible for a refund under Section 6 (‘Refunds’).
    3. You must check in no later than 90 minutes before the scheduled departure time of your flight.
    4. Your purchase is valid for the seat type, flight(s) and date(s) shown on the purchase receipt.
    5. If you purchased an Extra Legroom seat, you must comply with the additional safety requirements in Section 8.
  6. Refunds:
    1. Refund applications must be submitted after the flight has occurred (or was scheduled in case of flight cancellation) using our refund form within three months after the date of the last flight in your itinerary.
      1. If your itinerary includes a journey to/from the USA, we will comply with US DOT rule 14 CFR Part 260 and provide you with an automatic refund when required.
    2. You shall only be entitled to a refund of the seat selection charge in the following limited cases:
      1. The original Emirates flight was changed, canceled or rerouted by Emirates and
        1. the product you originally purchased is not available on your new flight; or
        2. you refused the new flight proposed by Emirates.
      2. Death or serious illness of you or a member of your immediate family in accordance with Emirates General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.
      3. You booked your flight via www.emirates.com/us/english including a flight sector to or from the USA at least seven days before departure, and you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking.
      4. You are reseated from a:
        1. Regular seat to a different type of Regular seat;
        2. Preferred seat to a different type of Preferred seat or to a Regular, Twin or Extra Legroom seat;
        3. Twin seat to a different type of Twin seat or to a Regular, Preferred or Extra Legroom seat;
        4. Extra Legroom seat to a Regular, Preferred or Twin seat.
      5. You voluntarily changed your flight and the seat type you purchased on the original flight (provided it was Preferred, Twin or Extra Legroom) is not available on the new flight. In that case you will be eligible for a refund of the seat selection charge paid for the original flight. You will not be refunded the additional charge paid (if any) for the seat on your new flight.
      6. You purchased an Extra Legroom or Upper Deck seat and subsequently became ineligible for these seats due to safety or operational reasons (provided you contact Emirates at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled time of departure).
    3. You are not entitled to any refund of the seat selection charge in any other event, including if:
      1. You voluntarily decide not to use the product you have purchased;
      2. You voluntarily changed your flight and the Regular seat you purchased on your original flight is not available on the new flight;
      3. You voluntarily upgrade, or are upgraded by Emirates, to a higher cabin;
      4. You voluntarily change to a seat type of a lower value on your originally booked flight;
      5. You voluntarily cancel your flight;
      6. You do not meet safety or legal requirements;
      7. You are entitled to the purchased product or service as a result of your frequent flier tier, but you failed to add the correct membership number at the time of booking;
      8. You are denied carriage in accordance with Emirates General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.
    4. In the event that you are entitled to a refund, we will refund the full amount of the seat selection charge including any refundable tax (unless otherwise stated).
  7. Changes:
    1. Your seat selection is also valid if you voluntarily change the date of your flight(s) or choose different flight(s) on the same sector, and the product is still available. If the product is not available, you may be eligible for a refund under Section 6.
    2. Voluntary seat changes on the originally booked flight are allowed free of charge for seats of the same or lower value and by paying the difference for seats of higher value.
  8. To qualify for Extra Legroom seats, you must meet the following safety criteria:
    1. Be 16 years of age or older.
    2. Be able to read and understand instructions in English related to emergency evacuation in text or graphic form and be able to understand oral crew commands.
    3. Be a person with sufficient mobility, strength and dexterity in both arms, hands and legs, be capable of identifying, reaching and operating the exit doors in the event of an emergency and not have any condition (including mental health conditions) that might cause you harm if you perform one or more of these functions.
    4. Be able to speak well enough to adequately impart information orally to other passengers.
    5. Be able and willing to assist the crew and other passengers in the evacuation of the aircraft.
    6. Not be traveling with infants, children under the age of 16, persons who require safety assistance for emergency evacuation, a guide dog or any other assistance animal.
    7. Not be using medical equipment or an extension seatbelt or requiring assistance due to reduced mobility.
    8. On all exit row seats, armrest cannot be lifted. On some exit row seats ending in A or K, leg space may be partially restricted and they may not be located next to a window due to emergency exit door placement.
    9. Emirates will reassign your seat before or during the journey without any refund if you don't meet any of the above safety criteria.
